Advocacy
more....
Much of the work done at LCCIL promotes change in the lives of our consumers and community.  We inform persons with disabilities of their rights, effective methods of addressing discrimination, and the importance and ease of becoming actively involved in the legislative process. LCCIL staff assists individuals through the advocacy process.  We also encourage self-advocacy.  Your best advocate is yourself.  We can teach you strategies to be more effective advocates in your communities.
Independent Living Skills
One-on-one assistance is available to those individuals who wish to become more independent.  Examples of independent living skills training include: find your own housing, using public transportation, applying for benefits, making a budget, using assistive technology, and more.
Information & Referral
Not sure what program is right for you? Do you have a need for services not available through LCCIL?  LCCIL staff are trained to provide information and/or refer individuals to community resources.  We may not be able to meet every need, but we can point you in the right direction.  Our most frequent questions relate to equipment, transportation, housing, employment or training and other disability related questions.
Peer Counseling
more....
We encourage interaction with other people with disabilities in either one-on-one meetings, or in support groups to share skills and experiences.  Consumers often discover a new sense of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and a personal dignity as a person with a disability.
Community Reintegration Project
more....
"No person should have to live in a nursing home or other institution......unnecessary institutionalization of individuals with disabilities is discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act."
Donna Shalala, Sec. HHS, January 14th 2000

LCCIL provides on-site Employment Readiness Programs for youth and adults with disabilities.  Instruction ranges from discovering work interests to appropriate interview skills.  We incorporate unique experiences to assist consumers in reaching their vocational goals.
Heads Up

Youth Services
We have a variety of services to meet the needs of youth with disabilities and their families.  We offer self-advocacy classes for youth in the high school setting.  An advocate is available to assist parents through the complicated rules and regulations of the special education system.  Summer internships are available to introduce youth to the world of work.  You are our future, and we must equip them with the tools necessary to live successful, independent lives.
