Personal Assistants can assist with routine functions of daily living. This may include, but is not limited to: dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, transfers, meal preparation, shopping, transportation, and light housekeeping. Our Personal Assistant Services combine three important areas which benefit both the person who uses a Personal Assistant and the Personal Assistant him/herself.
Personal Assistant Management
We offer skills training in Personal Assistant Management to assist you in becoming a more effective employer. Areas covered are: how to find a Personal Assistant, how to interview, write a contract, and train your Personal Assistant in HOW YOU want things done, how to be assertive, resolve conflicts and terminate employment (if necessary).
Recruitment and Orientation of Personal Assistants
Advertisements for potential personal Assistants are placed throughout the county. People who wish to become Personal Assistants or just learn more about becoming one are given an orientation which includes: Independent Living philosophy, overview of disabilities, assistance in daily living, and employment considerations. These services can be provided on an individual basis or in a group setting.
Referral Services
Personal Assistants who go through the orientation program could be put on a referral list. We try to match the skills of the Personal Assistant to the individual needs of the Consumer. The Consumer trains his/her own Personal Assistant in the way he/she want the job done. Our Personal Assistant Services are offered at no cost to both the Consumer and those interested in becoming Personal Assistants. Personal Assistant Services are a Valuable Tool for Independent Living.
